Amiibo not working botw

My kids dropped my Wii U gamepad on the floor a few months ago (before BotW was released). Thankfully nothing was broken, at least not on the surface. Ever since the drop Amiibo scanning fails. All other features of the gamepad are totally fine - volume, screen, controls and buttons, but just not the NFC reader.
