On a 4020 when the hitch lever is fully back the raise valve is held open so unless they have an inlet check like later models the hydraulic discharge valves could be the issue. Oil will go through that hole and run down a trough to the oil tube. Remove the oil pressure gauge and take a small stiff piece of wire and you can unclog the hole. I had the same issue with a 37 A. Its just the poor quality of the batteries mounted under the deck, along with the fact the 24v system is h^ll on batteries and starters.Thats usually a linkage issue. Ours do it also. The the early ones, 1st reverse is the same speed as 3rd forward, 2nd reverse is like 5th and 3rd reverse is like 7th. So, 3rd reverse is 12mph. Great for plowing snow. :rock.
