Hi there, I have a 1992 Johnson v4 outboard that I have a couple questions on. The engine runs great once started but when I start it up it has trouble in low idle. I use the high idle lever to start it, then have to quickly switch into gear when I put the lever down or else it will shut down.Yes, backpressure. Set it in the lake and when it's out of Quick Start. Theres a big plastic knob on the starboard side. Thats the idle timing adjustment. If it won't come down when you back off the adjustment, some models have a screw on the port side under the flywheel. Turn the screw in to set the idle down.
